2nd diagram:
1. Qxd7+! Kxd7
2. b8N+ Kc8
3. Nxa6 Kb7
4. Nxc5! (thus opening the "d" file) and it is a won game

You found the solution for diagram 2.

I would add that besides 4..dc5, Black could try 4..Kxc5, but then simply 5 Kg4 and the king's ending is easily won.

But what about position #1 ?
I though I started with the easiest one of the two..

1st diagram:
1..h4 threatning 2..Rd1 and 3..Rh1#; white has no available option to stop that without droping his knight (2.Nc3 Rxc3; 3. Rxg5+ and
4. Rg1); even so, white has to give up

You got it !

on 2 Nc6 !? 2..d5! wins but 2..Rd1 would not do the job : 3 Rg5+ and 4 Rg1.

What a great web log. I spend hours on the net reading blogs, about tons of various subjects. I have to first of all give praise to whoever created your theme and second of all to you for writing what i can only describe as an fabulous article. I honestly believe there is a skill to writing articles that only very few posses and honestly you got it. The combining of demonstrative and upper-class content is by all odds super rare with the astronomic amount of blogs on the cyberspace.
